Participation in games can lead to injuries. There are different types of soft tissue injuries. Common soft tissue injuries are lecration, contusion, abrasion etc. Millions of people participate in games and sports activities throughout of the world.

Participation in these games helps to improve the fitness and wellness. There is all round development of the people by participating in physical activities. While taking part in these activities there are possibilities of various types of injuries.

Different physical activities cause different types of injuries i.e. runners may develop sprain, cramps etc. where as throwers and jumpers may have over twisting of joints dislocations, strain etc.

    Contusion is a type of soft tissue injuries. Contusion is the crushing of soft tissues by a violent external force without breaking the continuity of skin. Sometimes in such cases muscles fail to respond. In severe cases muscles become completely inactive.

    Symptoms of contusion

    1. Discoloration under the skin, this starts from redness to turning blue or black gradually.
    2. Swelling and pain on contused part.
    3. Stiffness over the area.

    Treatment of contusion

    1. contusion should be treated immediately with ice application for some duration.
    2. Apply cold compress for few hours.
    3. After two days massage should be done over the affected part to reduce swelling.



    Prevention from contusion

    1. Use protective gear like skin guard, batting gloves, elbow guard etc. as per requirement.
    2. Abiding rules and regulations of sports activity.

  2. Abrasion
    It is the injury of skin in which skin is scrapped or rubbed by friction. It is normally a minor injury but can be serious if some foreign matter is stuck in it. It may be caused by a fall on hard or rough surface.

    Symptoms of abrasion

    1. Scrapping of skin with some burning pain.
    2. Some bleeding at the abrasion spot.

    Treatment of abrasion

    1. Avoid further friction.
    2. Clean the part with some antiseptic cream.
    3. Cover the affected part with medicinal cotton or with band-aid.
    4. Anti-tetanus injection should be taken.
    5. Repeat the dressing and clean the part everyday till it heals up completely.

    2. Stop bleeding at the earliest by compression or by pressing.
    3. Cover the affected part with medicinal cotton or with band-aid.
    4. Repeat the dressing and clean the part everyday till it heals up completely.
    5. Apply ice or cold compression for some time.
    6. If injury is deep go for stitches at the earliest.
